What you will be doing:
You will provide support to the Health Facilities Licensing and Certification unit by surveying Medicaid/Medicare Health Care Facilities statewide, conducting professional on-site inspections and reviews of health care facilities. As a member of the team, you will apply professional knowledge and expertise in a specialty area, such as nursing, medical technology, dietetics, or sanitation. You survey a variety of facilities including hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, rural health clinics, birthing centers, ambulatory surgery centers, independent laboratories, and outpatient physical therapy services to name a few.

The working environment you can expect:
You will work in the heart of Anchorage with an office situated with views of the Chugach Range, Mt. Denali, and the Cook Inlet. There is ample parking and a high level of building security. To maintain a healthy working environment, this position will be conducting a hybrid-work schedule by telecommuting four days of the five day work week. Travel within the state of Alaska two to three times each month to communities ranging in size from cities to rural villages, sometimes traveling by prop planes or by car. A love of travel and willingness to accept the challenges that come with Alaskan travel is a must!

Minimum Qualifications

Nurse Consultant 1
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
AND
Any combination of education, certification, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

  • Technical Credibility: Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
  • Evidence-Based Practice: integrates best research practices with clinical expertise and patient values for optimum care and participates in learning and research activities to the extent feasible.
  • Standards: Knowledge of standards that either are compliant with or derived from established standards or guidelines.
  • Reasoning: Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions.
  • Decision Making: Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.
equivalent to those typically gained by:
Completion of a post-secondary education program in nursing, public health, healthcare services, healthcare administration, or a closely related field;
AND
Progressively responsible professional nursing experience that includes responsibility in health care, public health, health care delivery systems, nursing administration, consultative nursing, and/or teaching capacity that is relevant to the position's area of nursing specialty.

Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Some positions require eligibility for specific professional certifications in a specialty field or licensure in the State of Alaska, such as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
