POSITION SUMMARY

The Research Associate is a member of the omics team (proteomics, lipidomics, and metabolomics) within the Platform & Translational Sciences group and is primarily focused on sample generation (in vitro models), lipidomic/metabolomic/proteomic sample preparation and mass spectrometric analysis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and execute cell culture experiments (cancer cells and primary cultures) followed by small molecule -Omics analyses (targeted and non-targeted) including lipids, metabolites and/or peptides.
  • Perform -Omics analyses from a diverse array of matrices including biofluids (e.g., plasma/serum) and tissues and create reports/presentation for management team.
  • Maintain a high level of good laboratory practices and analytical rigor including cleanliness in a cell culture environment.
  • Daily operation of liquid chromatographs/mass spectrometers & routine maintenance.
  • Document experimental procedures & findings, maintain quality assurance & quality control.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a BS with > 1 years of related experience or MS in biochemistry, biology, analytical chemistry or related field.
  • Broad understanding of biological processes/physiological pathways (e.g., energy metabolism, cancer, neurology), basic biochemistry (e.g., chemical functional groups, macromolecules) and bioanalysis (e.g., standard curves).
  • Knowledge of basic mass spectrometry concepts and experience with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses highly desired, but not required.
  • Must be able to work in team-oriented environment and demonstrate attention to detail and record-keeping. Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism, requiring independent work in -Omics research and development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with a proven track record of technical and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required for preparation of reports to management.
