Job description
The Second Assistant Golf Professional position assists the Golf Professional with the day-to-day administration and supervision of the golf operation, involving coordination, planning, and direction of personnel and guests of a multi-function golf operation. Performs a variety of supervision functions including maintaining a high level of service to staff and guests, with the ability to build relationships and provide exceptional experiences. Once trained, the First Assistant Golf Professional must be able to perform with minimal supervision in a fast-paced leisure facility environment.
The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster offers a bonus of up to $1,500 per year depending on the employee’s fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Laotian and/or American Sign Language (ASL).

Job Specific – Every employee in this position must be able to:
- Directly supervise Outside Service staff and Volunteer Program staff
- Directly supervise Cart Fleet Operations, Practice Ground Operations, Supplies inventory

- Accurately collect fees and account for daily deposits

Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks
Assist the Golf Professional with the overall supervision of golf operations including:
- Build relationships and create exceptional experiences
- Directly supervise all outside operations including cart barn, cart fleet, practice areas, podium/bag drop and schedule Cart/Range Staff and Volunteer Staff
- Collaboration of outside operations for all tournament and league play operations
- Implement pace-of-play programs that result in maximum revenues coupled with high levels of customer satisfaction
- Club handicap system liaison with allied associations (CGA, CWGA, USGA)
- Teach individual golf lessons, adult and junior player development programs
- Enforcement all golf course policies and procedures
- Mentor the development of staff in all related areas and performing personnel related activities, including hiring, training, coaching, supervising, evaluating performance and administering policies and procedures for employees involved in operating the golf course
- Supervisor duties at the Golf Shop counter for open, mid and close shifts
- Golf Shop inventory, merchandising, tracking, pricing and sell through
- Supervise and order all supplies (golf shop, carts and restrooms, etc.)
- Daily cash controls, cash reports, round/revenue reports, point of sale operations
- Process improvement procedures with the formulation and establishing of operating procedures and goals
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend required City of Westminster trainings
- Assist with facility operation needs including City contractors, Facility Maintenance, Player Development team, Food & Beverage team
- Manage associated contracts, purchase orders, and purchase card transactions
- Assist in monitoring budget performance and preparation of annual budget
Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job, and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City’s discretion.
Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications Required:
- Progressive experience as an Associate Golf Professional at a golf course operation working under a PGA Head Golf Professional
- Registered Associate in the PGA Professional Golf Management Program, PGA Golf Management University Program, or LPGA Teaching & Club Professional Division program working towards membership
- Progressive experience in operating a high-volume golf facility, daily golf shop operations, cart fleet operations, practice area operations, golf shop opening and closing shift operations
- Progressive experience in golf course marketing, web-based applications, and Apps
- Progressive experience in the direct supervision and coaching of teams
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record throughout employment
- Must possess or obtain CPR and First Aid certification within ninety (90) days of employment
- Graduation from high school or GED and at least two (2) years of completed college level coursework in business or a related field
Preferred:
- Class-A PGA Member Professional in good standing with 1-2 years of experience as a PGA Professional at a golf operation of similar size and stature facility operations, including outside operations and staff supervision
Any equivalent combination of golf industry education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered
Physical Requirements
Work performed is physical in nature, and requires sufficient stamina and strength to:
- Frequently sit, stand and walk indoors and outdoors and over uneven terrain
- Occasionally squat and kneel to perform golf instruction and assist in course maintenance; occasionally climb ladders and reach overhead to perform clubhouse maintenance; frequently bend, twist, and reach below shoulder to instruct and demonstrate proper golf techniques
- Constant light grasp, fine manipulation and handling to properly use office equipment and tools; frequent firm grasp to safely demonstrate proper golf mechanics with clubs
- Frequent step up/down and actuate mechanism to safely operate and enter and exit golf carts and vehicles
- Constant near acuity to perform office tasks; constant far acuity to observe course for maintenance needs and safety hazards; constant hearing to effectively communicate with guests and staff, and to be aware of any possible dangers on golf course
- Occasional lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds from floor to overhead to stock merchandise and empty buckets of range balls into machine; occasional repetitive lifting of up to 100 pounds and repetitive carrying of up to 100 pounds 100 yards from floor to shoulder to carry golf clubs over uneven terrain throughout course; occasional pushing/pulling of up to 100 pounds to transport merchandise in clubhouse on a dolly
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work constantly performed indoor with occasional outdoor activity and exposure to extreme temperatures. Work performed in a public golf course setting with high public use, where multiple events and activities at one time may cause distraction. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.

Computers and related office equipment, golf carts, golf clubs, range equipment, AED, PA system, cash drawers, hand tools, broom, blower, vacuum, gloves and masks.
