Job summary
The Amazon Display Protocols team is looking for a talented and passionate software engineer with experience with the Rust programming language to help change the way people use interactive graphics applications in the Cloud!

We are developing state of the art, low-latency streaming protocols which provide our customers with a secure way to deliver remote desktops and application streaming from any cloud or data center to any device, over varying network conditions. As we continue in our journey to adopt Rust, we are looking for your help in following Rust best practices, this spans from designing and implementing new components in idiomatic rust, to integrating with existing codebases, to working with open-source projects.

AWS services like Workspaces, AppStream 2.0, Nimble Studio, as well as many customers around the world, leverage our technology to run interactive applications remotely on EC2 instances, and stream their user interface to simpler client machines.
You will be part of a distributed engineering team with members both in the US and Italy. This position is for candidates who would like to join our team in Italy, in our offices in Asti or Cagliari.

A Day in the Life

Every day there will be plenty of opportunity to get involved with new technologies and work on different components of our products, or, if you prefer, to dive deeper in your particular area of expertise. Either way, there will be always something new to learn. We just ask you to be highly passionate and motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to our team. Your talent and passion can make a big difference.

Inclusive Team Culture

Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 16 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.

Work/Life Balance

Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives.

Mentorship & Career Growth

Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded professional and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.

Job Responsibilities

As a software development engineer on the Amazon Display Protocols team you will be part of an international team building technologies and products, like NICE DCV (https://aws.amazon.com/hpc/dcv) and the Workspaces Streaming Protocol (https://aws.amazon.com/workspaces/wsp).

Your responsibilities will focus on solving real customer problems and will span across all aspects of development, from the design of distributed architectures, to the development of efficient networking protocols, from low level graphic and GPU optimizations to the implementation of elegant user interfaces.

This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two/three months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our software is robust and reliable. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

  • Experience with network programming
  • Experience with multi-media streaming
  • Familiarity with AWS platform.
  • Experience with OpenGL or Direct3D programming.
