Position Summary
No
Performs school-based duties supporting the goal of maintaining a safe and orderly environment. Assists the administration, guidance, and teaching staff with student-teacher and student-student conflicts. Work involves engaging students outside classrooms and being alert to the climate and tenor of the school in order to serve as an early signal to school administration regarding student discipline and school safety. Monitors student activities and intervenes as appropriate to deescalate student disruptions.

1. Monitors all areas outside the classroom where students tend to congregate, including hallways, bathrooms, cafeteria (breakfasts and lunches), parking lots, and outside areas.

Ability to develop rapport with young people.
- Skill in deescalating aggressive behaviors.
- Ability to exercise considerable patience, courtesy, tack, and good judgment in working with students, teachers, administrators, fellow employees and parents.
- Prefer training and/or experience working with youth.
- Successful completion of all required tests.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Outlook and/or PowerPoint preferred). For new permanent secretarial/clerical/technician hires, a minimum score on a pre-employment assessment is required.

Career Ladder Requirements
Eligibility for Advancement from Grade 7 to Grade 8 requires
- Two (2) years continuous successful experience in the position at the grade 7 level.
- Mastery of all responsibilities and duties of the position.
- Demonstrated increased level of relevant knowledge and skills
- Successful completion of any relevant training courses as requested by supervisor
- Consistent compliance with general office procedures such as standards contained in the AACPS Employee Handbook; demonstration of discretion and excellent customer service; regular and punctual attendance; and building dress code, including wearing AACPS ID badge.
- Above Satisfactory overall job performance for two most recent consecutive years.
- Recommendation of the supervisor.
Physical Requirements
Physical ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time to monitor students in the hallways in the school building, and on school grounds.
